Advent

What is Advent?

The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming”. Advent is the season of new beginnings and covers the four Sundays before Christmas Day. It is the season of the impossible becoming possible. It is the season of longing and light. Week by week, candles are lit on the Advent wreath signifying our longing for the light of Christ, as the time of his birth draws near.

How do BCE schools celebrate Advent?

BCE schools follow the Catholic tradition of Advent, the period of preparation, for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. The Advent season provides schools the opportunity to explore the four themes of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love . During Advent we reflect on how we can prepare our hearts and homes for Jesus’ birth in the world as it is today.
